Sophie de Rijk, Violin

After studying musicology at the University of Utrecht, Sophie devoted herself to her lifelong passion for the Argetinian Tango. She chose a new and unique training in Europe, the Tango department of the Rotterdam conservatoire.

There she studied the violin under Benzion Shamir en Sexteto Canyenge violinist Martijn van den Linden and enjoyed ensemble and arrangement lessons by Gustavo Beijtelmann, Karel Kraaijenhof en Leo Vervelde.

Sophie played the violin in a number of Tango ensembles such as OTRA, Sexteto Puñal, and Tincho. She also participated in workshops by Juan José Mosalini and members of Color Tango.

During her stay in Buenos Aires in 2003 she played in the renowned Orquesta Escuela conducted by Emilio Balcarse and enjoyed lessons by Ramiro Gallo and Pablo Agri.

Sophie published several articles on Tango music.
